Stroller VS sling/baby carrier

Okay, the questions from me are going to start coming in more and more
now that the baby is nearly there (due in mid-February)!

I am interested in using a baby carrier like the Baby Bjorn as much as
possible, and was wondering realistically how much I’ll need a stroller
and how soon.  I find the stroller options daunting to say the least,
and would love to put off making a decision on this until I have a
better idea of my needs.  While I do live in a walking city, the baby
will be born at the coldest time of the year, and it won’t be till
she’s at least three months old that I could even take her on a
reasonably long walk round the neighbourhood.

If there are parents out there who’ve faced this dilemma, I’d love to
hear from you.

Thanks!

alarming weight gain – post pregnancy weight loss plan

I am now past 38 wks, and haven’t been on the scale for awhile.  Hopped on
last night and was amazed to see 170!  I started out at 125…  This is of
course in the evening, when I’m generally full of dinner, and I am starting
to swell a bit, but still, I can’t believe how big I am.  My Large sized
maternity clothes are almost too small!  My eating since right before
thanksgiving has been pretty bad.  I love to cook and bake, and I’ve been
home all day every day for the past month doing just that, and of course
eating it as well…  I have no one to blame but myself.  I’m just wondering
about weight loss after baby is born.  I plan to breast feed so I know that
weight loss must be slow and no drastic changes or calorie restrictions in
diet.  So here is my weight loss plan…

Eat less crap.  WELL DUH!  But seriously, if I just cut out the goodies that
I’ve been "supplementing" with, that I believe will make a pretty big
difference right there.  I am going to look further into proper nutrition
for breastfeeding – but does anyone know if there are specific nutrients you
need more of while breastfeeding?

After physical restrictions are lifted after delivery, I plan on using my
elliptical at least 20 minutes every day, and since we have dogs, I’d like
to commit to walking them at least 20 minutes every day.  At some point, I’d
like to get back to the gym, but I just don’t know how soon I’ll be able to
do that.  I don’t want to join until I’m sure I can make that commitment.

I’m assuming that with delivery I’ll lose around what?  12-15 lbs right at
the hospital?  And then within a couple weeks, maybe 5 or so lbs of water
weight and reduced blood supply?  Not really sure.  But that will still
leave me with 25+ lbs to lose.  I am going to give myself the 9 months it
took me to gain it to lose it all, but I do hope it comes off before that.

Could anyone share their previous post natal weight loss experiences?

Hi everyone,

I’m writing an college paper about teen pregnancy and would like to
interview those of you who would like to share your story about your
teen pregnancy and your life since then.

I’m researching this topic because I have known many teen mothers and
my own mother had me at a very young age. So, I feel very interested in
exploring this topic.

Please email me if you are interested to share your story at

Thank you ahead of time,

Weird sickness with my 10 month old? Vomiting?

Hi everyone,

Little John has had a rough week. Hes had a fever the last few days of
no more that 102.5. He had all the classic cold symptoms as well as a
rash on both cheeks. We treated him with the typical otc infant stuff
to keep the fever in check and now his fever is gone. Heres the thing
though, he is having trouble with foods and keeping it down. This
started mildly a few days ago, 5 days maybe but didnt seem that bad.
Today he has thrown up 3 times including a major projectile vomit. He
seems ok, he mood is good and he seems really hungry but he cant hold
anything down. We tried allimentum mixed with cereal which he gets
everyday and he immediatly starting hurling, not alot but you can tell
he just had a tough time with it. Hes drinking pedialite though, that
stays down fine.

We though he might have fifths disease because of the cheeks, they
looked slapped. he has no diahrrea or anything else like that. He looks
to have alot of mucus in his vomit, its gooey and nasty. He just got
over twin ear infections just 2 weeks ago, we arent sure what to make
of this becase the fever is gone.

Any ideas?

email appropriate to let people know?

Just about to make up a contact list for DH to let people know when baby
arrives, (still got 5 weeks, but just getting organized) and I was wondering
in general what people think about emailing family/friends.  I guess
immediate family would probably merit a call, but what are people’s thoughts
in general?  Would it be seen as inappropriate to just email?

Hot/Warm Baths?

I’m newly pregnant (with #2) and at 4 weeks, I took a pretty warm bath.
The water was probably about 100-101 F and I was in for about 20
minutes.  I knew that hot baths were to be avoided, but since this
wasn’t the really hot temperature I normally go for, I didn’t think it
would be a problem.  But now that I’ve flipped through a couple of
pregnancy books this past weekend, I’m worried that the bath I took was
still too hot.  And am kicking myself for taking a bath *at all* when
there was any question.  Can anyone help ease my anxiety?

Long-term storage of teats ??

Hi,

I have a number of silicone bottle teats which are no longer required
by my baby, but I would like to keep them in case we need them in the
future..

Can anyone suggest the best way to store them?  They already seem a bit
clammy since being stored in a kitchen cupboard in an open container
for approx 2-3 months.  Will they even keep for 2-3 years (approx) ??

All suggestions received with thanks..

-Phill..

co-sleeping not all it's cracked up to be…

Will usually poos at LEAST once a day, usually up to 3.

No poos for almost 2 days…

Warm night, so only tshirt and nappy…

I awoke to cute little scratches on my back, and a wet feeling on my
lower back… rolled over hoping for just a wee leak.

Nope.

*MASSIVE* poos!  Orangy yellow, liquid-with-chunks, POO!  EVERYWHERE!

I’m glad my DH works from home…. "…. can you please give me a hand
here?"  "Poo?" "yeah, on my back, too"

Hehe, lucky he’s cute!

Jo (mum to Will, much lighter now, and almost 6 months!)
